The cannabis sativa plant originated in China 19.6 million years ago. So cool scientist can trace it back that far through sub fossil seeds.
Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the main psychoactive cannabinoid found in cannabis, and causes the sensation of getting “high” that’s often associated with marijuana.
However, unlike THC, CBD is not psychoactive. It’s sourced in a different way to marijuana and does not contain THC, so it’s legal in some states. According to a report from the World Health Organization, “In humans, CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence. To date, there is no evidence of public health related problems associated with the use of pure CBD.”
CBD oil is made by extracting CBD from the cannabis plant, then diluting it with a carrier oil like coconut or hemp seed oil. CBD gummies are typically made with gelatin, juice, and honey, and a CBD tincture.
In a study published in Neuropsychopharmacology (2011), patients with social anxiety disorder received a 600 mg dose of CBD one and a half hours before participating in a stress-triggering exercise. Results showed a significant reduction in anxiety levels, cognitive impairment, and reduced discomfort in speaking in social settings.
Other health benefits of CBD:
Relief from Chronic Pain & Inflammation: Chronic inflammation, according to the National Center for Biotechnology Information, leads to many non-infectious diseases like heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer’s Disease, and even autoimmune disease. Research shows that CBD can treat inflammation and in turn help alleviate these diseases.
CBD has been proven to have anti-seizure properties that can successfully treat children with drug-resistant types of neurological disorders like epilepsy.
We know CBD helps fight inflammation. The same is true for when the immune system attacks the pancreatic cells, causing Type 1 Diabetes.
According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, depression affects 6% and anxiety affects 18% of the population in the US each year. Their research shows that CBD oil can help with both problems.
CBD aids in oxidative stress, a condition when the body has too many free radicals and antioxidants aren’t able to neutralize all of them.
Fights drug resistant bacteria. Researchers looked at CBD’s ability to kill bacteria, and “In every case, CBD had a very similar potency to that of common antibiotics.”
CBD can help manage symptoms that occur with cancer. According to a review published in the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, CBD can significantly help prevent the spread of cancer. The researchers noted that the compound tends to suppress the growth of cancer cells and promote their destruction.
Given CBD’s medicinal benefits, as people are educated on this subject, my hope is it will be legal in all states sooner than later.
